Why your website gets no calls

You paid for a website. People visit it. The phone still doesn’t ring.

That gap is almost always one of five things. Here they are, in the order we see them most, with the fix for each.

1. It’s slow on a phone

Most of your customers find you on a phone. Many of them are standing in a driveway or sitting in a truck.

If your site takes more than a few seconds to show up, a lot of them leave. They don’t wait. They tap the next name on Google.

The fix: Test your site on Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool and pick “Mobile.” If the score is red or orange, the site needs work. Huge photos are the usual cause. So are old themes stuffed with features you never use.

2. Your number is hard to find

Someone who wants to call you should never have to look for your number.

Check your site on a phone right now. Can you tap the number at the top of the page? Is there a way to call on every page?

The fix: Put your number at the top of every page and make it a link, so one tap starts the call. Add a short quote form for people who would rather type.

3. It doesn’t say where you work

“Quality service you can trust” could be anyone, anywhere.

A person in Meridian wants to know you work in Meridian. Google wants to know too.

The fix: Name the towns you serve in plain words. Put them on your home page and in your footer. Make sure they match your Google Business Profile.

4. It looks old or generic

People judge a business by its website in a second or two. An old design, stock photos and broken links make a good business look closed.

The fix: Use real photos of your work, your crew and your trucks. Phone photos are fine. They beat stock photos every time, because they prove you’re real.

5. No clear next step

A lot of sites explain the business and then just stop.

Every section should end with one clear next step, like “Get my free quote” or “Call now.” Use the same words every time, so nobody has to guess.

The fix: Add one button to the end of every section. Keep the words short and say what they get when they tap it.

Where to start

Start with number 1 and number 2. They are the fastest to check, and they cost you the most calls.
